1. Wash everything several times per day. Your clothes, bed sheets, blankets, towels, jackets, anything you come into contact with borax soap available at your local Walmart, Target or grocery store. DO NOT SHARE TOWELS.
2. Avoid touching household members until you are sure you are scabies-free. Use hand sanitizer or gloves if it is necessary to touch an affected person. This includes sexual intercourse (a common way to transmit scabies).
3. When you decide on a treatment, treat everyone in the household at the same time and get a plan together on how disinfect your environment.
4. To prevent reinfection of scabies be sure to use a safe hospital-grade disinfectant such as BenzaRid to kill the mites in area where you lay, sit or come into contact with.
5. Use mattress covers on your beds to make it easier to protect your mattress from re-infection of the mites.
